No. 013Prius Goes Platinum Badge
Thanks to Prius people like you, America’s favorite hybrid has reached an epic milestone: one million Prius vehicles have been sold across the country.
As part of the celebration, Prius owners got to create a complimentary Prius Goes Platinum badge. Prius people were quick to celebrate and nab thousands of custom-molded badges and stickers designed to be one of a kind based on mileage, number of Prius hybrids owned, and CO2 emissions prevented.
Thank you to everybody who participated. Take a look at the gallery above to see some of the many badges designed to represent every unique Prius and driver partnership.

Just as I was getting all excited I saw that the offer is only for USA residents. What will it take to convince Toyota that we as loyal Prius enthusiasts here in South Africa as well as the rest of the world are just as excited to promote Toyota and the Prius in particular. Me and my wife both traded our previous Toyotas for Prii and we have not looked back since! Thank you Toyota! Toyota Prius is die beste!

Yay! Finally got the site to work. After being pressured by my car salesman room mate to buy a prius, so he could get a volume bonus, I couldn’t be happier. I just bought an upgraded model 1 month ago because I loved the last one so much! Thanks Toyota!

Gas @4.oo,prius was a great investment.
Posted by Ross on May 19, 2011 at 4:15 am
I’m not sure we should be “rewarding” those with higher mileage. Even on a Prius, the miles not driven save the most gas and pollution.
Posted by Walt on May 19, 2011 at 4:18 am
We’ve had ours since 2005, and have 126,000 miles on it. We are thinking of getting two 2012′s when they come out.
Posted by Dave and Ann on May 19, 2011 at 5:37 am

Posted by JB on May 19, 2011 at 5:45 am
Oh, US only. Well that {censored}, it’s not like the Prius has been sold for ages in other countries. Well done marketing department on excluding everyone.

We survived a serious head-on collision due to the safety features in our 2004 Prius. We now have a 2010 Prius replacement and are very happy. But how do you count the mileage from the first car + the new one for the savings calculation?

I think the reason it’s been restricted to the US can be seen here:
“one million Prius vehicles have been sold across the country”
I know it’s not very specific, but I believe “the country” mentioned is the US. In other words, this is a specific celebration by Toyota Sales USA that they have sold one million Prii in the US. It would be great if Toyota themselves did a worldwide celebration at some particular milestone, but for now, this milestone is specifically about the US. When I first saw this, I was really surprised that it was *only* one million, but now we know why. Worldwide Prius sales are probably much higher.
(I just looked it up: worldwide sales are at 2.15 million.)

I liked the idea of a badge and got one automatically in the mail since we bought new this year. Then I looked at it and thought it was a printing mistake, but it’s not. It looks like a little blue stick with a small green square at the end. We got screwed with the design, oh well, it ain’t going on the car now!
Posted by Dave on August 1, 2011 at 3:40 pm
I absolutely love our Prius; Wish we had a trade-in option when the plug in hybrid comes out, since I am more than halfway through with paying it off. When I bought my Prius we just missed the service warranty for life promotion…Oh well…:) Thank you for the badge…

Received an email “Your Toyota eNews: Explore the Possibilities” from Toyota@toyotamail.com inviting me to go to this site to create my very own badge, only to find out the offer is closed. Bad coordination of marketing efforts.

As others have said: first heard of this today, 16 August. Apparently can’t get a badge now because this “offer” is closed. Why, then, send the e-mail notice trumpeting this at all?

Great Promotion! (that’s a sarcastic comment)
I get an e-mail on Aug 16, 2011 for a promotion that was ran in May 2011 and now it’s closed.
How stupid is that!
How about getting us all a badge!

Today (Aug 16, 2011) I received an email from Toyota inviting me to go to this site to “create a unique badge”. And once I get here, I learn that this was a promotion that ran 3 months ago …. this is so stupid that it is almost embarrassing to me as a customer.

How do I get the badge I was invited to create in an email I received TODAY that said, “visit toyotapriusprojects.com today to create and share your unique Prius Goes Platinum digital badge.”?????
Love my 2006 with 90,000 miles on it….. never a problem with only routine maintenance and tires.
Thanks, NK

I”ve been driving the Hybrid Prius since 2007. I’ve made trips from Albany, NY to Dever, Tucsan, Minneapolis, Indianapoliis and Arizona. My average milage for all these trips was 50.1 miles per gallon. I’m looking forward to buying the new plug-in Hybrid next year.

Just got this email today (8/16/11) about designing my own Platinum Badge, only to find out that the promotion is already over. That’s no way to treat your loyal Prius customers!

Posted by Flo Kelly on August 16, 2011 at 5:35 pm
Is it still possible to get the badge? i didn’t see the promotion when it came out 3 months ago! (I have a feeling this is a glitch, since it’s notice 013 and now there’s 014)

Al, I’m in Michigan too and I think I read about the badge/sticker offer in the paper way back when. I’d forgotten about doing it online until the sticker came in the mail last week. I’ve had my Prius since Jan ’10. Love it! Getting 50mpg just makes me want more. I hit 60 briefly for the first time last weekend! Woohoo!

I have owned a Prius for quite a while now. I keep my mailing address & email updated with Toyota, and keep my info up to date with Toyota Owners’ Intersection. This is the first I’ve heard of a special Prius Badge. I’m the proud owner of a 2005 Prius, and plan on keeping it for quite a while. Yes, I’ll continue to “recruit” new Prius owners. Keep your badge. I’m keeping my Prius. Eat My Voltage! (But if you have an extra badge, send it my way….

Wow! Another example that Toyota Motor Sales is rapidly turning into the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. Before you start bragging about your great badge promotion that already ended, its probably would have been a good idea to have spent the same energy announcing the availability of badges WHILE THE PROMOTION WAS STILL ACTIVE. Way to go Toyota for showing how to make a good promotion go bad.

It’s not too late to get a badge, Toyota can easily issue another 1000-100,000 badges from the manufacturer. So the question is, will they or won’t they? (I’m a marketing guy that works on similar projects) It’s all about the budget, so it’s understandable (or is it for a multi-billion dollar company to skimp on some extras, especially after an e mail snafu like this). Let’s see if they come through for their LOYAL owners.
